Alumni and Employment Outlook

American University has many reasons to be proud of its alumni. Their graduates are hard at work creating meaningful change that enriches lives and improves society – efforts built on the educational foundation gained here.

Within six months of graduating with their master’s, the following alumni report being employed or continuing education:

  • 98% of MA in Economics graduates
  • 95% of MA in Strategic Communication graduates
  • 93% of Master’s graduates in the College of Arts and Sciences (this includes the Department of Health Studies)
  • 94% of Master’s graduates with a degree in public policy or public administration

Employers include state and local government, associations, corporations, and agencies.

Online Student Experience

American University online programs are delivered through a format that’s convenient, flexible, and portable. Like on-campus, students talk about their coursework and current issues with classmates, ask instructors questions and turn in assignments, but it’s all done via email, discussion boards, instant messaging and more.

Online courses at American University are as rigorous and challenging as their on-campus counterparts, and taught by the same connected faculty members, influential guest speakers and prominent lecturers. Financial Aid

Online graduate students enrolled at least half time in a Master’s or PhD program may be eligible for federal loans. To apply, students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and register with the U.S. Department of Education for a Personal Identification Number (PIN).
